Can't get velocities from Fume or Ember

Hi,

It looks like I am having some random issues with performance of Stoke.
Yesterday It seemed to work fine with Ember on Max 2012 (even though it should now be stable).
I created a nice vector field from vector noise and was able to drive particles around.

Today I can’t get it to wrk at all with same configurations.
I recreated everything from scratch - the same.

What I get from stoke is:

  • Create and distribute particles
  • Display them as static points
  • I can drive them around with simple forces like wind.

BUT:

  • I can’t get it work w/ Ember field (the same one that worked a day ago)
  • I can’t get it work with FumeFX simulations.

What is happening is I get particles, but they don’t move at all.
I restarted a few times, recreated all objects from scratch - no difference.

Help?

It’s very strange. Sometimes it seems to work, but most of the time only once after recreating SimEmber & Stocke and reconnecting from scratch.
Also SimEmber seems not to accept presets from main gui. Works fine only if I open magma flow and load preset.

EDIT:

  • It has something to do with relative or absolute position of stoke, sim ember and distribution source. Playing with that maybe helps fix the issue, but can’t see any rule. Fume throws error anyways.
  • I think it may also be related to initial state vs simulation flow. Looks like some kind of bug, but can’t tell exactly what’s wrong with that. In any case I see a decent SIMEmber vector field, but sometimes it does not work for Stoke.

I can confirm that Fume is not working correctly at least for me. I get really strange results. see attached or vimeo

EDIT:Removed screencap

With Max 2012 I get fume up and running.
Switched to 2013 and Fume stopped working for me - either solo or in conjunction with Ember. Whenever I add FumeFX field I get unexpected error.

I am still running Fume 3.0.2 here.
Will have to update to 3.5.1 and see what happens…
I think Darcy updated to 3.5.1 because of Krakatoa debugging, but I could be wrong.

Partyk, what version of Fume are you having troubles with?
Also, does Ember work ok for you in 2013? That’s where it was developed and where it is supposed to work better…

I know you asked Patrick, but I’ll butt in and say that Ember is working smoother for me in 2013 than in 2012 though I did get “HasError” yesterday when replicating your “PFlow Times Two: Advecting One Particle Flow With Another” Magmaflow and it would not work – I went over it several times to make sure I did it exactly the way you had it set up. That’s the only case that’s caused me problems so far. Vector noise is working well for me and so are the other examples I downloaded.

3.01

As for Ember also getting HasError errors constantly.
Most often I get this error when clicking or activating auto update in Magma vieport.
But it works nonetheless.

When I get unspecified error"there’s no way to continue.

About Ember working under 2012 vs 2013 - I don’t see particular difference, but I am not using it extensively yet - just playing around with vector noise.

3.01 is not supported by Krakatoa and Ember. There was a significant bug in FumeFX 3.0 and 3.01, and 3.02 was provided specifically to fix the issue. I am not sure of 3.02 is still available though. But it would explain any FumeFX problems you might be seeing…
