We are trying to get Cinema 4D R25 with rendering via Octane 2021.1.3 working on the latest Deadline.
One machine appears to be working but two others fail at the start of the render with an "Asset Error: (Octane Material.1).
Two of the machines have Octane Enterprise licenses and one has a Studio License. These are full licenses and all machines can render fine in the C4D GUI.
It looks like the C4D command line is not finding the Octane plugin or something.
Where does octane install itself, it’s always been an odd one, check the plugin preferences to see if it’s launching itself from the user profile, in which case you may need to copy that install into the CLR specific folder. Better still would be to install it into a plugins folder in the c4d install location.
I’m not sure if enterprise/studio have issues working on the same network, or if the licenses have limitations. is the Octane Material an actual shader or reference to a library?
is there any more info in the log file? does it show it loads octane in any way?
EDIT: from memory, using Octane this way requires the app&render license, I’m not sure if this is the same, the version/license system is so convoluted.
Thank you so much,
That put me on the right track. There are two directories for each version of C4D under C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\MAXON
One has a _x or some other letter after it. Both have plugin directories.
We have being installing Octane plugins in only the one without the _x
I copied the plugin into both directories and it started rendering. Seems the Commandline.exe uses the …_x directory plugins.
BUT…
Now I get the dreaded -1073741819 error at the end of the task render and it fails.
I have struck this error in After Effects before and there used to be a way to get Deadline to ignore it and complete the task.
