Hi there,
I know self updating is not yet expected to be working, but i did notice that whenever a slave was restarted, it DID do an auto update. Is that currently expected to work A-OK?
Is the only thing missing autoupdating when the slave is idling?
cheers,
l
Hey Laszlo,
If auto-updating is enabled in your Client Settings in the Repository Options, the slaves will still try to auto-update themselves.
The last time we tested it (around beta 5 or something), it WAS working properly, but we’ve had some reports that it wasn’t working for some people, and we’ve also been discouraging it because we were still updating some core Qt libraries that aren’t part of the auto-update. We haven’t had a chance to test since, but now that the Qt libraries are stable, this will be a priority after beta 12 goes out.
Note that the slaves never automatically updated themselves while they were idling. To upgrade a “live” farm, we’ve always recommended using Remote Control to send out a “Restart Slaves After Current Task Completes” command to upgrade your farm without losing any rendering time.
Cheers,
Ah ok, that makes sense, i remembered wrong
It worked on 5,6. I think it required an uninstall/reinstall for 6 -> 7 and then 8 worked but 9 broke. I didn’t try 10 but if they stopped updating qt libs it generally works.
Thanks for the note Gavin, that makes me feel better, cause currently we were holding off on a wider rollout due to this issue.
This would let us get some more slaves over to the deadline side
