Do the contents of these folders change between releases?
Its the largest part of deadline, and since we dont use the cloud features, im wondering if we can skip updating them
Hi Laszlo,
The cloud plugins will continue to be developed as they evolve between Deadline releases. The 3rd party API libraries that are included will also be updated as and when the various cloud providers release a newer version themselves. I just checked and you can remove the “cloud” directory and things seem to be ok. The Configure Cloud Providers dialog is just empty, with no plugins available. It’s only about 17Mb in size, so I’m not sure it’s really worth it? You never know, you might need them some day?
Mike
Its not really the size, its the file count…
When i’m doing a live repository update, the critical folders are bin/scripts/submission etc. But in the alphabetical middle there is cloud, with its thousands of tiny files taking 3-5 mins to copy. So there is a period where bin is already updated, but scripts/submission and other scripts aren’t.
Just scares me a little is all
Could you install the repo installer to a secondary location which is on physical local disks located next to the same storage where the production repo directory is located? If so, you could then write a script which controls the order in which the sub-directories are copied over and overwritten? Perhaps, you could also pre-warm your Avere cache with the new data as well if the slaves are pulling through it?
Yeah ill just leave that folder for last
