The problem could be that we’re expecting 3dsmaxcmd.exe to print out specific output, and we’re likely assuming that output to be in English. We’ll have to double check this when we get back in the office on Monday. Can you let us know which version of Deadline you are running? You can find this in the About dialog which can be opened from the Help menu in the Monitor.

In the meantime, you could try disabling the “Run 3dsmaxcmd.exe Workaround” option in the 3dsmax plugin configuration (this is where you set the render executable path). Let us know if that works for now. Note that the CPU and Memory Usage graphs are only shown for completed tasks, and if the job is failing to render, that would explain why you’re not seeing the job active.

Also, I noticed that you started a new thread when responding to my previous post here:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2521

Please keep responses regarding the same problem to the same thread. This makes it easier for us to track what we’ve discussed so far.

Thanks!

i am sorry i am a newer so i can not use it expertly, now i know how to response dirrectly.
thank you for your help, the version of deadline i used is:Deadline Version: 3.0.32237; FranticX Version: 1.0.0

Where did you get this version from? Were you originally on the 3.0 beta program? The reason why I ask is that we’ve never released this particular version as a public release. We suggest upgrading to the most recent version of Deadline, which can be downloaded from here:
franticfilms.com/software/pr … /download/

If you are running Deadline with a 3.0 license and don’t wish to upgrade to 3.1 at this time, then at the very least you should upgrade to Deadline 3.0 SP1 (build 33353). We can’t support a version of Deadline that we haven’t officially released, so after upgrading, let us know if you continue to have the same problem.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

i download this version from"http://www.franticfilms.com/software/products/deadline/download/".ok i will upgrade to 3.0sp1.the license i used is deadline 2.7 and dowload from the same url.

i install dedline 3.0 sp1 and can submit job successfully and can rendering for a while, but there are also exceptions:

how can i do to solve this problem?thank you !

Maybe try reinstalling 3dsmax 9? The 3dsmax.ini file should be in the max root directory, so if it’s not there, I would assume that a reinstall would fix that.

If a reinstall of 3dsmax 9 doesn’t fix this, then this might be an issue with Deadline 3.0 where Deadline is looking for the max.log file in the wrong place. We can’t reproduce this here though, so the problem has likely been fixed in 3.1, in which case upgrading to that version would be the only solution.

Let us know if reinstalling 3dsmax 9 helps at all!

Cheers,

  • Ryan

i reinstall 3ds max 9,and appears the same problems as i submit last time.and i examin the monitor, the job statistics show :elapse rendering time 23h 47ms 07s and the others are blank.but no completed task any more.please help me !!!

I’m starting to run out of ideas here. I have no idea why there isn’t a 3dsmax.ini file in the max installation folder. However, here’s something to try.

In the 3dsmax root folder (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 9), there should be an InstallSettings.ini file. In this file, you should see a setting like this:

useUserProfiles=...

Set the value for this setting to 0 if it is not already:

useUserProfiles=0

Save the file, and then try rendering on that machine again (with the 3dsmaxcmd.exe workaround option disabled). With useUserProfiles set to 0, max should write the Max.log to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 9\network\Max.log. This log will usually contain information to explain why the scene is failing to load, so hopefully this way we can get a little more info out of max. If you still get an error message while rendering, please send it to us.

If this doesn’t work, the next thing to try would be to use the 3ds Command plugin. This plugin uses 3dsmax’s command line renderer (3dsmaxcmd.exe) to do the rendering, and it’s possible you might have better success with it, or at the very least, get a better error message:
franticfilms.com/software/su … ommand.php
franticfilms.com/software/su … ration.php
franticfilms.com/software/su … tsetup.php

If you get this setup and you still get an error message, again, please send it to us.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

i can not find "InstallSettings.ini ".why ? is the 3ds max i installed have problem?is install 3ds max have something should to configur?i will try to use 3ds Command plugin.thank you for your help!!

yes i use the 3ds Command plugin to rendring task and it can rendering successfully and can completely and can show the graphic but there are exceptions too:

The fact that 3dsmaxcmd.exe is crashing is a good indication that there is a problem with your 3dsmax installation (the missing 3dsmax.ini and InstallSettings.ini are also indicators). One thing you can do to confirm this is to try and render from the command line using 3dsmaxcmd.exe (without using Deadline). If you run it without any command line arguments, it should print out the usage instructions. Just pass it the scene file and tell it to render one or two frames. If you still see this Runtime Error, then you know for sure there is a problem with the max installation, and you should talk to the Autodesk support team to see if they have any ideas.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

i can not find the Autodesk support team it is hard to regester,i don’t want to leanr anymore too hard :frowning: !the setup is correct but it always show eceptions,i can not feel any comfortable!

It’s unfortunate that you’re having difficulties, but since the problem is on 3dsmax’s side, there isn’t really much more we can do to help. If you do happen to get help from Autodesk at some point, and you’re able to run 3dsmaxcmd.exe from the command line without it crashing, let us know and we can continue to try and help you getting it to work with Deadline.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

thank you for your help all the time ,i will hard yet!!!

i used 3ds cmd to rendering jobs.first i submit the job successfully, but it have problem though at first it can rendering ,the exception is:
Exception Details
RenderPluginException – Exception during render: An error occurred in RenderTasks(): Error in CheckExitCode(): Renderer returned non-zero error code, 3 (FranticX.Processes.ManagedProcessAbort) (Deadline.Plugins.RenderPluginException)

i think it is the problem of the scence i submit, because when i open the scene that always show errors that lack of .mll document and others.so i change a job to submit ,then it can rendering succesfully,it also show the graphic of taske memory usage and cpu usage.but there still do not have .ini document and the dcument of"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\9 - 32bit\enu\Network"is empty but in the
document of “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 9” has a document os “network” and the document of “network” is not empty.and i want to know why it does’t need to setup the path of output of the rendering job?and where is the output job when rendering complete?

I assume you are referring to missing .dll files? If these missing files aren’t fatal to your render, you should be able to enable the Continue On Errors option in the submission script. That should at least let the render finish.

That would likely mean that local user profile is disabled, so max is saving this information to the root location. Our 3dsmax plugin relies on the InstallSettings.ini file in the max root directory to figure this out, so if that file doesn’t exist…

Anyways, because you’re using the 3dsCmd plugin instead, the location of the Network folder shouldn’t really matter.

Deadline simply uses the output location that is defined in the 3dsmax render options in the scene file. Make sure that the path you specify is a network path that can be accessed by your render nodes, otherwise the rendered images will be lost.

Cheers,

  • Ryan
