What’s New In Deadline 5.1 Release Candidate 1
This release fixes some bugs and adds a few minor features. At this point, we will not be making any changes unless it is to fix a critical bug. If all goes well, Deadline 5.1 should be released in mid December. We will be extending all beta licenses to the end of December as necessary, so just email your request to sales@thinkboxsoftware.com.
The most important change is that Deadline now uses our new ‘thinkbox’ license server, instead of the old ‘frantic’ license server. The process for setting up the new server and configuring Deadline to connect to it hasn’t changed. However, you will need a new beta license file. Please be sure to get your new license in place before upgrading to avoid any problems.
We’ve implemented auto-configuration directly into the ‘thinkbox’ license server. If a slave starts up and can’t connect to the license server, it will send a broadcast to the network. If the ‘thinkbox’ server is running, it will reply to the broadcast with the license server settings. Note that this is only support in IPv4 at the moment, but studios using IPv6 can still use Deadline’s auto-configuration feature to set the license.
We’ve also changed the way Python is bundled on Linux and OSX to avoid potential problems. This means that the client installer will need to be run again on these platforms.
Finally, Lightwave 11 is now supported.
