Deadline 6.0.48694 (Beta 2) Now Available

Important

We do not consider Deadline 6 to be production ready at this point. If you are in production, we still urge you to install Deadline 6 on a few machines and give us feedback. The faster we track down any bugs that exist, the faster Deadline 6 will be ready for production. Please use the appropriate sub-forums to discuss the software and post bugs or suggestions.

Also, this beta release only includes support for Windows and Linux. The next beta release should include Mac OSX support.

What’s New In Deadline 6.0.48694 (Beta 2)

This release fixes a few key issues that came up in beta 1. We are now building the Linux Qt libraries against an older version of glib. This should allow Deadline to run on all of the versions of Linux we list in the System Requirements. We also fixed a job scheduling bug that could prevent slaves from picking up any jobs.

In addition, the Repository installer now includes the option to install MongoDB for you, or allow you to connect to an existing database. Finally, we’ve updated the Blender, Combustion, CommandLine, CommandScript, FFmpeg, modo, and Python plugins for Deadline 6.0.

General Improvements

  • Deadline’s Qt libraries are now built against an older version of glib, so they should run on more versions of Linux.
  • The default font on Linux SHOULD be much better. Of course, let us know if the font you see on your system is ugly or too big.
  • Added plugin support for Blender, Combustion, FFmpeg, modo, and Python. We also added our CommandLine and CommandScript plugins.
  • Fixed some threading issues with the Splash Screen.
  • “About” text is now populated properly.

Installer Improvements

  • Repository installer now gives the option to install MongoDB.
  • Linux client installer now properly creates the Launcher daemon, and exposes the option to launch the slave when the launcher starts.
  • Windows client installer now creates shortcuts in the Start menu.

Repository Improvements

  • The binaries for each operating system are now stored in zip files. When auto-updating, this zip file is copied locally and extracted to the Deadline bin folder.

Scripting Improvements

  • The ScriptDialog’s GetItems function no longer returns None all the time.
  • Re-added helper functions for browsing files/folders to the ScriptDialog class.
  • The ScriptDialog’s ShowDialog function now properly shows modeless dialogs.

Command Improvements

  • Scripts run by -ExecuteScript can now create a ScriptDialog object.
  • Scripts run by -ExecuteScript can now use RepositoryUtils functions again.
  • The -notify option when submitting jobs now works again.

Monitor Improvements

  • Disabled slaves are now highlighted properly. Before, they just showed up as offline.
  • Pulse host name in the Pulse Settings of the Repository Options is now saved properly.
  • The most up to date Repository Options are now retrieved when showing the Configure Repository Options dialog.
  • Added a timeout option when setting test emails in the Repository Options.
  • Added an option to the slave settings to override the slave’s MAC address (if Deadline is retrieving it incorrectly).
  • Changed some of the slave’s context menu shortcuts.
  • Improved the layouts of some dialogs (slave settings, repository options, etc).
  • Dialogs that are supposed to highlight changed settings (slave settings, job properties) now do so properly.
  • Fixed the error that occurred when clicking Cancel in the initial user selection window during Monitor startup.
  • Clicking the OK button in the Repository Options dialog should now work properly.

Slave Improvements

  • Fixed a scheduling bug related to Limits and Machine Limits that could prevent slaves from picking up any jobs.
  • Fixed an error that occurred when syncing auxiliary files for a job that doesn’t have any.
  • Fixed a bug that could caused the Slave to be stuck in an internal Initializing phase. This could result in the slave crashing when shut down.
  • No longer complains about missing “jobs” and “slaves” folders in the repository’s report folder.
  • In nogui mode, if the slave can’t connect to the repository, it will now keep trying instead of exiting immediately.

Pulse Improvements

  • Fixed a bug that could caused Pulse to be stuck in an internal Initializing phase. This could result in pulse crashing when shut down.
  • In nogui mode, if Pulse can’t connect to the repository, it will now keep trying instead of exiting immediately.
