What’s New In Deadline 6.0.48934 (Beta 3)

This release includes the Mac OSX version of Deadline 6, and fixes a bunch of bugs that were reported. No new software applications are supported in this release because we wanted to get the Mac OSX version in people’s hands as quickly as possible. We will be focusing some time on new software support for beta 5.

General Improvements

  • The Deadline applications on Linux now write their log files to /var/log/Thinkbox/Deadline6.

Installer Improvements

  • If you choose the option to install Mongo in the Repository installer, it will show an error if the Mongo server isn’t listening, which is a good indication that there was a problem with the install. Previously, it just tried to continue with the install with no error.
  • The Windows Client installer now shows a warning if it detects any Deadline applications currently running. It doesn’t kill them like it did in Deadline 5, so that you can close the apps gracefully.
  • The installers on Linux and OSX now check for a minimum Mono installation of 2.10 instead of 2.8.
  • The Linux Client installer now adds a shell script to /etc/profile.d to add the Deadline bin folder to the PATH environment variable.
  • Fixed a post-install action error in the Client installers.
  • The Repository installer no longer overwrites permissions in the Repository folder after installation. So any permissions that were already set will be left intact.
  • The Windows installers now use the Registry to find the previous installation location and set the default install path as necessary.
  • The Windows Repository installer now warns the user if .NET 4.0 could not be found.

Launcher Improvements

  • Removed the ability to create new slave instances from the right-click menu. This is help avoid users from creating them accidentally. They can still be created from the Slave’s Remote Control menu in the Monitor, and they can be created by manually creating the necessary slave INI files on the local machine. The latter method will be properly documented at some point.
  • Double-clicking the Launcher icon launches the Monitor again.
  • The Submit and Scripts menus are back.

Monitor Improvements

  • Added the “Customize” option to the list header right-click menu. This will allow you to customize the column order and visibility like you could in Deadline 5.
  • Fixed a bunch of bugs with loading and saving the Power Management settings.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the Repository Options from be saved in some cases.
  • The “Connect To Slave Log” option now displays a window that allows you to choose which of the slave’s threads to view the log for.
  • Fixed some bugs in the slave list’s Remote Control options.
  • Removing slave instances using the slave list’s Remote Control option now properly deletes the slave from the slave list.
  • The Drive Mapping option now automatically removes trailing path separators from the network path before mapping it to avoid potential errors.
  • Fixed a crash when purging obsolete pools.

Pulse Improvements

  • Machine Startup (power management) should be working again.

Slave Improvements

  • The Slave UI has been refactored to use a drop down to select which thread to view the log for instead of having a tab for each thread. The drop down just applies filters to a single log box, which will cut down on memory usage because there won’t be a log box for each thread like there was before.
  • The slave now checks if its task has been requeued every 5-10 seconds instead of every 30 seconds. So if you requeue or delete an active job, the slaves will recognize it much quicker then before and move on to the next job.
  • Fixed an error that would occur when purging reports for a deleted job.

FFMpeg Improvements

  • Fixed a syntax error with setting up the stdout handlers.
