Important
We do not consider Deadline 6 to be production ready at this point. If you are in production, we still urge you to install Deadline 6 on a few machines and give us feedback. The faster we track down any bugs that exist, the faster Deadline 6 will be ready for production. Please use the appropriate sub-forums to discuss the software and post bugs or suggestions.
This beta release includes support for Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX.

What’s New In Deadline 6.0.49068 (Beta 5)
This release fixes a bunch of bugs, and re-adds support for Fusion, Lightwave, Softimage, and Tile Assembler jobs.
This release also completely changes how job and slave report logs are stored in the Repository. In previous versions, a folder would be created for each job and each slave, and their report logs would be stored there. Now, they are stored in an indexed folder structure in [repository]/reports/jobs and [repository]/reports/slaves. The indexed folder structure is created by the Repository installer. This change helps avoid permission problems in the Repository. For example, it’s possible that one Slave won’t be able to save a log for a job if another Slave running as a different user creates the job’s report folder first.
In addition, the reports are now compressed using bz2 instead of zip for better text compression.
General Improvements
- Job dependencies should be working properly again. There was a bug in the dependency checking logic that prevented it from working.
- The method of storing Job and Slave reports in the Repository has changed. They are now stored in a folder index that is created by the Repository installer, instead of a separate folder per job.
- Job and Slave reports are now compresed using bz2 instead of zip for better text compression.
Installer Improvements
- The Repository installer should now show an error if you try to configure the Mongo database using credentials, and Mongo isn’t configured to require authentication.
- Added a missing log entry to the Linux Client installer when performing text substitution on a file.
- The OSX Client installer now adds the Deadline Launcher to the Login Items for the user.
- The Windows Client installer now installs the Launcher service with the correct name.
Monitor Improvements
- If an error occurred while saving the log for a Log/Error Report for a job, that error is shown when you try to view that report in the Monitor.
- Added script menus to the right-click menus of most of the lists in the Monitor.
- VNC and Remote Desktop is now available through right-click scripts in most of the lists in the Monitor.
- Fixed a bug that prevented you from removing dependencies from a job in the Job Properties dialog.
- Fixed some bugs with editing the Mapped Drives and Mapped Paths settings in the Repository Options.
- The Job/Slave Report panels will now clear the log section when selecting a different job or slave.
- On OSX, the DeadlineMonitor -> Preferences menu will now show the Monitor Options, instead of the Repository Options (of course, we still need to create the Monitor Options dialog).
Slave Improvements
- The whitelist/blacklist for a Limit or Machine Limit is no longer ignored if the limit is set to 0.
- Fixed the NotImplementedException that would occassionally get thrown by the Slave.
- When an error occurs for a job, only an Error Report is saved for the job. Previously, both a Log and an Error report were saved, which is redundant because the Error Report contains the full log.
- The task error count is now incremented when an error occurs for a job.
- The log box now purges old lines when it hits the 5000 line maximum.
- The Slave no longer gets stuck in an infinite Throttling loop if Throttling is enabled, but the host name in the Pulse settings is blank.
Scripting Improvements
- Moved the Pulse Web Service scripts to [repository]/scripts/WebService.
Shotgun Improvements
- The correct Shotgun API is now shipped with Deadline 6.
Fusion Improvements
- Fusion support is now shipped with Deadline 6.
Lightwave Improvements
- Lightwave support is now shipped with Deadline 6.
Maya Improvements
- Fixed a bug that prevented MentalRay jobs from being submitted from the Monitor.
- The MayaBatch plugin no longer tries to use the obsolete GetPluginInfoFilename(), so script jobs should work again.
Softimage Improvements
- Softimage support is now shipped with Deadline 6.
- The old XSI scripts have been renamed to Softimage.
Tile Assembler Improvements
- The Tile Assembler plugin is now shipped with Deadline 6.
