Deadline 6.0.50587 (Beta 14) Now Available

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR MAC OSX USERS:
This only applies to Mac OSX users. Starting with beta 13, we are now bundling Mono with the Deadline installers for Mac OSX. This means that if you have beta 12 or earlier, you must manually reinstall the Clients again, as opposed to using Deadline’s auto-update feature. After you are running a minimum of beta 13 , you will be able to use Deadline’s auto-update feature to upgrade from beta 13 to beta 14 and so on.

See the Upgrading documentation in the CHM or PDF Deadline 6 manuals for more information.

What’s New In Deadline 6.0.50587 (Beta 14)

This release fixes a bunch of bugs and adds a few more features that were missing.

Here are the highlighted changes.

Slave User Interface Redesign

The log window has been removed from the Slave user interface. It’s been replaced with a button that allows you to spawn the log viewer for the slave. This is the same log viewer used by the Monitor to connect to remote slaves.

There are two major benefits to this change:

  1. The Slave’s overall performance will no longer get bogged down if the current renderer is writing tons of output.
  2. If something in the log viewer goes wrong, it will not affect the actual Slave application.

In addition, the log viewer will now be pre-populated with the last 500 lines from the slave’s log, so you can scroll back much further than you could be fore.

Bundling .NET 4.0 on Windows

The Client and Repository installers on Windows will now automatically install the .NET 4.0 framework if necessary.

General Improvements

  • The maximum task count for a job has been bumped up to 100,000 but the default is still 5000.
  • The Deadline applications on Windows can now find the Qt libraries properly if they are launched from outside the Deadline bin folder.
  • Daylight Savings Time is now taken into account when converting the database time to local time.

Installer Improvements

  • The .NET 4.0 framework is now bundled with the Windows installers.
  • The Repository installers now ship empty sanity check scripts for 3dsmax and Fusion. Before, they were installing scripts that already had internal sanity checks specified.

Launcher Improvements

  • On OSX, Deadline applications that are started through the Launcher now show their proper name in the menu bar.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the -shutdown command to not shutdown the Launcher properly.

Monitor Improvements

  • Doubled the default size of new panels.
  • The slave list in the Manage Pools/Groups dialog is now sorted in ascending order.
  • Fixed a mix up where the Console panel was hidden by default for Everyone and the Cloud panel was visible by default for Everyone.
  • Added a Repository option to control how often a Slave updates its state.
  • Added Repository options to control how often the Monitor reads in updated data.
  • The Pinned Layouts menu is now populated properly when the Monitor starts up.
  • Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C shortcuts now work again for lists when the Console panel is visible.

Slave Improvements

  • Fixed a bug that would cause the Slave to re-render a previous task and then hang, which would occur if an error occurred while the Slave tried to dequeue a task.
  • Fixed a potential bug that could cause the slave to lock up if one of the print statement delegates through an error while handling a line of text.
  • Removed the log window from the UI, and replaced it with a button to spawn the log viewer for the slave.
  • The slave log viewer will now load the last 500 lines from the slave log, instead of just the last 2000 characters.
  • Removed the “Updating slave settings” verbose line of output.
  • Fixed an error when updating the limit stub names in the Slave UI.
  • Added status messages for menu items that were missing them.
  • The slave log viewer now shows a highlight when the log window is suspended.

Pulse Improvements

  • Added status messages for menu items that were missing them.
  • There is now a highlight in the status bar that indicates when the log window is suspended.
  • Removed an unnecessary warning message in the log.

Maya Improvements

  • Fixed a bug that prevented some scenes from being submitted if they contained referenced layers.
  • Fixed a “LogWarning” error in the MayaBatch plugin.
  • Added a stdout handler to catch an Arnold error message.
