Deadline 6 Roadmap

So with the Deadline 6 betas progressing along, I’m curious if you guys have any more thoughts you can share on the current (at least theoretical) beta/release roadmap. The last I had heard, the beta cycle would essentially be perpetual until you felt that D6 had reached a state near enough to stable and feature-complete to start thinking about a release cycle, so I’m just curious if this outlook has changed at all.

I’m wondering because I’ve recently been asked to fast-track some projections for making a full switch to Deadline, and I’m curious if I should be taking the fact that that switch may involve beta releases into consideration.

I would appreciate any thoughts or info you can share.

Hey Nathan,

Beta 10 will be more or less feature complete, at least in terms of major features. The remaining scripts and plugins that needed to be ported will also be included in this release. There will be a few minor things to hook up here and there, and there are still some minor bugs to work out, but we feel as a whole that beta 10 is very near to being ready for production (if it’s not already).

Here are some things that will still be missing in beta 10, but are still on the todo list:

  1. The ability to save reports to disk from the Job or Slave reports list.
  2. Some pulse list right-click options, like Remote Control and Auto Configuration.
  3. The Slave Availability filter from version 5 (we are trying to make this work with the new filtering system).
  4. Many history entries that would normally be logged for jobs and slaves still need to be hooked up.
  5. Auto updating of the Deadline client.

There are also some minor feature requests for the Deadline applications, plugins and submission scripts that we want to look at. However, the list is pretty long, and these are determined based on how much time we have, so it’s really not worth getting into specifics here.

We are expecting the beta to at least go into March, but that’s because we want it to go through as much testing as possible before public release.

Hope that’s what you’re looking for. If you need any additional details on anything, let me know!

Cheers,

  • Ryan
