Note that the documentation is not complete yet. Many sections still need to be updated for changes and new features introduced in Deadline 7.0. In addition, the User Manual documentation is currently in HTML format. Simply unzip the documentation to your machine and open index.html from the html folder to view the documentation. We plan creating PDF versions of the docs in the future.

What’s New In Deadline 7.0.0.26 (Beta 2)

This release fixes a bunch of bugs, and updates a few features. Note that this release does not contain the rebuilt Qt libraries. We plan on including the updated libraries in Beta 3.

Here are the highlighted changes:

Jigsaw and Tile Rendering for Rhino

Jigsaw and Tile Rendering are now available for Rhino. Note that this require Rhino 5 Service Release 2014-6-9 or later.

Installer Improvements

  • Fixed a bug in the Linux Repository Installer that prevented the database from being configured.
  • Removed the monoexec parameter from the Linux Client installer, since it’s no longer needed.
  • Fixed a bug in the Client Installer that was causing the license server entry to be reset if the repository directory was invalid.
  • Reduced size of OSX installers (some unnecessary files were included in beta 1).

Job Improvements

  • Jobs now have a limit on the number of error reports that can be generated. A job with the maximum number of errors will fail and cannot be resumed until some reports are deleted. This number is configurable in the Job Settings in the Repository Options.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause interruptible jobs to be interrupted for another job of equal priority.

Client Application Improvements

  • When the system is shut down, the Deadline applications now respond properly by closing themselves.

Launcher Improvements

  • Fixed a bug that was causing the launcher to crash when it could not connect to the Repository at startup.
  • The Local Slave Control dialog now shows the state of any slaves running on your machine, and lets you control them.

Monitor Improvements

  • Cleaned up the layout of the Filter form.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented drag & drop dependencies from working.
  • Fixed a bug where trying to send a Remote Command to an unknown host would hang indefinitely on Linux and OSX.
  • The lists no longer auto-scroll horizontally when clicking on a column that is only partially visible.
  • Changed the backgrounds of the graph and node view panels so that they are darker.
  • Fixed how the color was set in the job dependency view when testing a dependency on a deleted job.
  • Improved the look of the job progress bars, and added an option to the Monitor Options to not show task states in them.
  • The selected background in the job and task lists is now shown around the progress bars.
  • When a new user group, pool or group is created, it is automatically selected.
  • Batched jobs are now indented a bit more in the job list.
  • Fixed an error when the job list is showing progress for a single task job.
  • Checkable menu items with icons now use the highlight color to indicate the item is checked.
  • Improved the message box that pops up when suspending a job.
  • Added options for viewing history to the Pulse and Balancer lists.
  • Fixed an error that occurred when changing the Job Dependency View to another panel type.
  • Fixed a “ManageListForm” error.
  • Fixed an error that could occur when deleting multiple users at the same time.
  • The Local Slave Control dialog now shows the state of any slaves running on your machine, and lets you control them.
  • The limit dialog and the power management dialogs now disable the name field instead of just making it read-only when in edit mode.
  • The vertical space between checkboxes in the quick filters has been reduced.
  • Collapsible group boxes now hide their frame when they are collapsed.
  • The plugin-specific properties in the Job Properties dialog now resize with the dialog.
  • Fixed a bug when importing settings from a Deadline 6 repository.
  • In the Performance settings in the Repository Option, there is now a button to auto-adjust the settings based on the number of slaves.
  • Changed the right-click menu item text in the quick filters to avoid confusion.
  • Fixed a timestamp bug in the Console panel.
  • Fixed a color control bug in the plugin-specific job properties that would cause the property to appear as modified when pressing Cancel on the color picker dialog.
  • When selecting a Batch in the job list, all the jobs in that batch now show up in the job dependnecy view.
  • You can now select multiple jobs in the job list and have them show up in the job dependency view.
  • Added a limit to the job dependency view for the maximum number of selected jobs it can show.
  • The job dependency view settings are now saved properly when pinning layouts.
  • Added tool tip to Batch Name in the job properties dialog.
  • Added tool tips to the labels in the job dependency graph toolbar.
  • Fixed a bug when coloring the alternating rows in the job dependency nodes when jobs change state.
  • When executing a remote command, if the process returns a non-zero exit code, then the result is returned as a failure instead of a success.

Slave Improvements

  • When searching for a job, we no longer prune jobs that have a QueuedChunk count less than or equal to 0. This helps ensure that if a job’s state gets messed up, queued tasks will still be dequeued for that job.
  • When searching for a job, the slave will now cache any Limits that it failed to acquire, and ignore other jobs that require the same limit during that search.

Pulse Improvements

  • Made some tweaks to the web service new and delete user groups functions to not return error codes for certain outcomes.

Command Improvements

  • Added some User Group command line options.
  • Fixed the RemoteControl command to properly print out results.

Scripting Improvements

  • Added some additional User Group functions.
  • The RGB spinners in the Color script control now resize when the control size changes.

Shotgun Event Improvements

  • Added functionality to upload a filmstrip and a H264 quicktime movie to Shotgun when a job finishes rendering. For now, only the Maya submitter has the option to enable this, but it will be added to more.

After Effects Improvements

  • Added support for After Effects CC 2014.

Cinema 4D Improvements

  • All multi-pass paths are now included when submitting from the integrated submitter, allowing you to open these output files from the Monitor.

modo Improvements

  • The submitter now properly saves the background image when submitting a Jigsaw render.

Nuke Improvements

  • The secondary pool setting is now sticky in the integrated submitter.

Rhino Improvements

  • Added Jigsaw support to Rhino.
  • Added Tile Rendering support to Rhino.

Vray DBR Improvements

  • The VRay DBR submitter for Maya now has an option to specify the port, and the server_ports temp file is created to use that port.
