Deadline Jobs requeing/erroring on second computer only

Hey guys,

I’ve had a working deadline farm for over a year now, and all of the sudden my jobs will reque and never complete on my second computer. Jobs will complete on my respository machine. I reinstalled deadline on both machines to see if it was a version issue. I also noticed something that I don’t believe was there before. a cmd prompt. Here is a link to my screenshot of that.

Hi Michael,

These appear to be two different issues.
The one seems to be two copies of the Remote Connection Server running. In the screenshot, are the two command windows running on the same machine, or on two different machines on the same network? The second one cannot run because the first one is already running (as it says in the report).

The second problem seems to be Houdini failing to open the scene file because it is located on a local drive, what looks to be your Desktop on the Repository machine: C:/Users/mdhre/Desktop/test/test_v001.hiplc

You must have the file accessible to both computers, so either on a network share, or in the Repository (via the “Submit Houdini Scene” option in the submitter). In your case, the Repository machine’s Worker can load the file because it is local to that machine, but the second render node does not have that file at that path…

Is it possible that in the past you submitted the scene as auxiliary file with the Job? Or did you use a shared path where both computers could access the file? Something must have changed.

Hi Bobo,

The two command windows are on the same machine. I don’t even know if I need remote connection server running. I dont think I’ve ever seen it before. So maybe a fresh install without checking that option might work to fix that.

I will fix the first problem before trying to fix the second problem, but I believe my second machine has access to that C:/ drive. I will have to double check and get back.

In the past I used a NAS, which of course had shared access, and nothing has changed with that. I believe I was submitting a test using my C:/ drive, but I will change that test over to my NAS and see if it still has the same results.

Reinstalled deadline, I didn’t need remote connection at all. That’s no longer an issue. I still am getting the same error on my jobs though, and I switched my test project over to my N:/ drive, which is a shared network drive.

Using the N: drive would be ok, assuming that you defined what N: means under Tools (Super User Mode) > Configure Repository Options > Mapped Drives. You have to specify the drive letter, the UNC path to what N: represents, and possibly the login and password needed to access the NAS drive share.

Keep in mind that just because you can see N: mapped on both machines does not necessarily mean that Deadline knows about that. Drive letter mapping is specific to the current user, and if your second Worker was installed to run under a specific user, it might not be aware of N: unless you tell Deadline how to remap that for all its components.

Hi Bobo,

The N drive has been used before for quit awhile, I think its been about a year now of using deadline. The only hardware or software change I did recently was install a 3090 into the respository machine, which jobs can still submit to that machine and complete withour error. I have 2 computers and a NAS, the computer that doesnt have the repository is the one with the issues. (just restating for full information)

I am simply looking at the logs, and the last log says

Unable to open file: N:/_Projects/test/test_v001.hiplc

So either the file is corrupted, which of course it isn’t if it renders properly on the Repository machine, or the file cannot be accessed because the render node does not know what N:/ means.

There might be other possibilities, but that’s what comes to mind.

Try mapping N: to the correct UNC path to your NAS drive with login and password in the Configure Repository Options, and if that does not change anything, let me know. At that point you could do the right thing and email Support@thinkboxsoftware.com, the place to ask for help when something does not work with Deadline :slight_smile:
