hi,
we’re trying to submit a ~simple scene to Deadline (2.6.24779, running locally).
when setting Deadline to “One Job Only” it BLAZES through the first partition, averaging .14 seconds per frame, but when it comes time for the second partition Deadline Slave returns “Error 5 - Access Denied” (any idea why?)
if we use “One Job per Partition” then it takes about 4 seconds per frame… but at least it renders each of the partitions.
am I doing something wrong? seems like “One Job Only” would be the way to go… but how to resolve this error?
thanks
First of all, Krakatoa requires Deadline 2.7 (at least the Max submission tools we posted a couple of months ago) - did you install those? Chances are you have not because some controls in the submission dialog are disabled.
We have NOT tested what would happen if you submit Krakatoa to Deadline 2.6 because we do not have 2.6 anymore - 2.7 is near release, and we have provided the 2.7 tools for Krakatoa Beta testers anyway…
The error you see is NOT a Krakatoa Error. It is not even a Deadline error. It only means that once the partition has finished, Deadline wants to shut down Max. Max says - get lost. Deadline says - I will force you. Then it kills the process ;o)
In this mode, each partition is a separate task inside the job. So if you submitted 4 partitions, you should see 4 tasks in the job. If you have 4 slaves, you should see 4 slaves saving one partition each.
If you have only one slave, once the first partition is done, the same slave should pick up the next partition.
QUESTIONS:
- Did you install SMTD 2.7? Chances are that using 2.6 could cause surprising results…
- How many tasks do you see in the job? There should be 4.
- How many slaves do you have?
- Is the content of the fast saved parition files correct? (just making sure that part is working)
Note that if you have SMTD 2.7 installed and if your slave has more than one CPU, you can let the same machine run more than one task, one per CPU!
Thanks!
aha! thanks, Bobo

install SMTD 2.7? nope – doing so now
number of tasks in job: 4
number of slaves: 1 (for now)
content of fast-saved part seems okay…
thanks

I am not saying there is no bug in the Krakatoa + Deadline saving - if after installing SMTD 2.7 you still see unexpected things, I will investigate in the morning (Monday was a holiday here so I haven’t been in the office since Friday).
The strange thing is that your slave attempted to close max after finishing the first partition, since it should have continued with the next task / partition without reloading… Unless your Deadline settings force it to restart after each task.
