Deadline - Scheduling machine restarts

Hello, we are using Deadline Version: 6.2.0.32 R (2563d5bc8).

I do not know if this is possible or not through the new maintenance job mode, so I thought I would ask.

I would like to have a all machines on the farm restart the computer at 7 am every Monday (once a week indefinitely), once they have finished any current job they doing.

Is this possible? How would I go about doing it?

I obviously have many other ways I could do this without deadline but if it can be integrated it would make tremendous sense for us.

Thanks,

-Rob

Hi Rob,
Absolutely. See here for Pulse’s Power Management - “Machine Restart”. (Need Pulse to be running)

Just type in 10,080 minutes (1 week). Although you might flag that this isn’t scheduled (7am Monday), I’ve always found that it’s better to ‘randomise’ the restart time based on how long a slave has been up for. You could quite easily have a few slaves be restarted mid-week and basing the restart purely on length of running time, allows a more random “running time” for your slaves. Useful, if you have some ad-hoc software deployment trickling through your system, as an en-mass reboot of enough machines at the same time, typically always causes more problems than it was intended to solve!
It should be noted that if the slave is busy rendering, then the restart doesn’t happen until it’s finished it’s current task, so no wastage there.

Thanks! Will give it a go.
