Deadline V7.0.0.41 Submission Script

Hello,

I have Deadline V7.0.0.41 installed on Windows Servers.
Slaves all working fine. (checked via the Monitor)

My issue is.

On MAC OS X Client Machines 10.7.5
Cinema 4D R16

Submission script is not appearing in cinema4d r16.
Copied the file from repository/submission/Cinema4D/Client/DeadlineC4DClient.pyp into Applications/Cinema4DR16/Plugins
Restarted the Application Cinema4D R16 and still doesn’t appear as a plugin or script.

Has anyone experienced this??

Do you have the Deadline Client installed on the Mac OSX client machines? The Deadline Client must be installed on a machine in order to submit jobs from it. When the client is installed, if you can launch the Monitor on the workstation and connect to the repository, then you should be able to submit.

Cheers,
Ryan

Oh I didn’t realise it was necessary.
I will install and re-post as soon as.

Thanks Ryan!
F

I have installed Deadline Client 7.0.0.41 onto MAC OS X 10.7.5
causes machine to crash application and unable to use any deadline application.

Also causes Cinema4d r16 to stop working.

Has anyone got Deadline 7.0.0.41 working with OS X 10.7.5 and Cinema R16?

We’ve had it working here just fine.

Are you any error messages from the crashes that you could send us? Can you open a Terminal, change directories to /Applications/Thinkbox/Deadline7/Resources, and then run “./deadlinemonitor” and send us the error message that is printed to the terminal?

Can you provide more specifics about how C4D 16 has stopped working?

Thanks!
Ryan

Error I receive is “segmentation fault : 11”

Cinema4D R16 Issue:

Basically if I manually copy the python submission script Cinema4D launcher stalls on loading plugins.
I can however remove the script for now to allow our users to use Cinema, until we have the deadline monitor issue resolved.

The C4D issue is probably a result of the Deadline Client applications crashing, so yeah, let’s focus on why those are crashing.

Was there anything else in the terminal besides “segmentation fault : 11”? If there is more, can you post all the output that is written to the terminal?

Also, is this a problem across all Macs, or just one?

Thanks!
Ryan

I am only able to test this on 1 client machine.

But previous deadline version was working correctly.

Yes I can confirm that “segmentation fault : 11” is the only error listed.

I have also tried removing and re-installing this application as the ROOT user and its the same issue.

Thanks for the additional info. I just tested on an OSX 10.7.5 machine here, and was able to reproduce this. It works fine on 10.8, 10.9, and 10.10 though, so there is something about our Mono build that is preventing it from working on 10.7. We’re looking into it!

Cheers,
Ryan

Thanks Ryan,

Please keep me posted, we are very keen to start using the new version of Deadline.

Regards,

F

This problem should be fixed in beta 8. We’ve rebuilt Mono targeting OSX 10.7, and now it works across all four versions (10.7-10.10). Hopefully we can get beta 8 out next week.

Cheers,
Ryan

Hello again.

I can confirm that Deadline V7 Release Candidate is working with Cinema4d R16.

Unfortunately I have come across another problem. This time error in Deadline Monitor stating that it cannot see the project. The slave and client can both access the storage which the project and textures are held.
Also the slave and client also have full access to the Deadline7 repository.

I am not sure what is causing this?
However I do have deadlineV5 repo sitting on the same volume.
See below. This is how the directory is.

\Deadline\Deadline V5 Repository
\Deadline\Deadline V7 Repository

Glad to hear that Deadline is working on 10.7 again!

I’m not sure I quite understand your new problem though. Which project are you referring to (that the Monitor can’t see)? Are there error messages or screen shots you could post that could help explain your problem?

Thanks!
Ryan

Ah, it’s a render error. Thanks for clarifying!

It looks like Deadline is just the messenger here, and we can do a quick test to confirm if this is the case or not. On a slave that is reporting this error (GNODE4 in this case), open a command prompt and run the following command line:

"C:\Program Files\Maxon\CINEMA 4D R16\CINEMA 4D.exe" -nogui -render "\\Volumes\itvgfx\ITV\ITV Daily Archive\2014\11_November\18.11\TEST RENDER FARM\TEST.c4d" -frame 75 75 -oresolution 1920 1080 -oimage "\\Volumes\itvgfx\ITV\ITV Daily Archive\2014\11_November\18.11\TEST RENDER FARM\RENDERS\TEST"

This is the exact same command line that Deadline is running here. If you run it from the command prompt and you get the same error, then at least you know it’s not Deadline. If it works fine, please send us the output printed by C4D and we can compare it to the log you posted above to see what the problem could be.

Also, are you perhaps submitting this job from a Mac and rendering on a PC? I noticed that the path starts with “\Volumes”, which is typically a Mac thing. If you are doing cross platform rendering, you should refer to the Cross Platform Rendering Considerations section in the Deadline documentation. Here is the v6 link, but there is a similar page in the v7 docs:
thinkboxsoftware.com/deadlin … iderations

You’ll have to set up Path Mappings in the Repository Options so that Deadline can translate the path to the project file based on the OS it’s rendering on.

Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Russell,

I believe the problem is cross platform rendering.

Can you help me with this.

Replace Path - should I be putting the path of where the projects are held on the MACs?
Windows Path - Put the path of where the projects are held on the windows directories?
Linux - leave blank?
Mac Path - Would I need this too?

this is what I tried and failed.
Replace Path - \Volumes\itvgfx\ITV\ITV Daily Archive
Windows Path - E:\itvgfx\ITV\ITV Daily Archive
Linux - blank
Mac Path - \Volumes\itvgfx\ITV\ITV Daily Archive\

You can add a couple entries.

This is for going from Mac to PC:

Replace Path - /Volumes/itvgfx/ITV/ITV Daily Archive/
Windows Path - E:\itvgfx\ITV\ITV Daily Archive\
Linux - blank
Mac Path - blank

This is for going from PC to Mac:

Replace Path - E:\itvgfx\ITV\ITV Daily Archive\
Windows Path - /Volumes/itvgfx/ITV/ITV Daily Archive/
Linux - blank
Mac Path - blank

You should also have the case sensitivity and regular expression options disabled for both entries.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, but I still receive same error. Seems like it is being converted to look at the correct path.
please see error log.

I have used the following for Edit Mapped Paths
Replace Path = /Volumes/itvgfx/ITV/ITV Daily Archive/
Windows Path = E:\itvgfx\ITV\ITV Daily Archive\

Is there something im doing wrong?

Has E: been mapped on this render node (GNODE4)? Are you able to browse to this exact path from it as well?
E:\itvgfx\ITV\ITV Daily Archive\Firats Stuff\Test2\Anotherone\Anotherone.c4d

Maybe the actual path from Windows is slightly different…

Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Russell,

I have spoken to one of your colleagues Richard Seanor and he has helped me with the issue.

It was down to the Mapped Paths.

I now have it set as
Replace path - /Volumes/itvgfx
Windows Path - E:\

Everything is currently working and I will hand back to user to test.

Thanks for all your help.
