Deadline

I’m still new to deadline so forgive me if me questions sound stupid. I couldn’t find answers in the manual.

1.) So, how can I assign a job to deadline that uses more the one Processor (starting the application more then one time)

2.) How can I see the frames to be rendered in the Deadline monitor, it currently just show the partition task (so 1-5, but not frame 100-250… etc.)

3.) Please make off-line manuals available… I would like to print it out or have it available without internet connection.

  1. There’s an option under job properties -> advanced for concurrent tasks. Setting that to 2 or more will run multiple copies of max.

  2. When submitting the job, choose One Job Per Partition, Frames As Tasks.

  1. is currently broken in Deadline (as you know ;o) - it is a bug in the synchronization of plugins as the client tries to copy over the latest versions of the connection plugin and since it is in use by the first instance, it fails.

Will be fixed in the upcoming Deadline update around Siggraph.

2) The Partition per Task option was requested by users here but is a "hack" in a way - it runs the same code that is used when creating partitions locally, a script that loops from frame to frame and calls render() for each frame. You can see the frames reported in the Log window of the client during rendering, but you cannot see directly the frame range to be processed - it is taken by the job from the actual frame range stored in the Render Scene Dialog. Thus, it is not exposed to Deadline in any way and the only way to modify it is to open the Max file from the repository, change the time settings in the render scene dialog and save back.

As Chad said, using the second submission method from Krakatoa will show each partition as a job, with each frame as a task.

3) We DO plan to provide PDF versions of our documentation - a new Frantic web site is being prepared which will contain a mirror of the current wiki without actually using the wiki engine, and we will try to provide offline docs for all our products. We will just have to figure out some technical details.

You can also pack a html page for download…

it’s just as we have no internet connect since 3 weeksts…
