I noticed the growl notification has disappeared, any plans to bring it back?
Thanks,
Timor
P.S…: I also hoped my often requested wish for a “pulsing” slave icon (when rendering) would have made it to 6.0…does not look like it…

Unfortunately, we decided to remove the growl notification from Deadline. However, it should be possible to create an event plugin for Deadline that can send growl notifications if a job completes, fails, etc. If we did ever add growl support again, it would be part of a plug-able system, but there are currently no immediate plans to do so.
There are python bindings for growl, so you should be able to use this in an event plugin:
growl.info/documentation/developer/bindings.php
We also didn’t have time to look into a pulsing slave icon. The new UI for D6 took much longer to complete then we had originally estimated, and that forced us to focus mainly on feature completeness, performance, and flexibility. Unfortunately, that meant there simply wasn’t enough time for lower priority UI adjustments.
Now that we have the new UI in place, we would like to look into supporting the display of icons while the slave is running as a service, and that will probably be a good time to look into an indicator to show when the slave is rendering. I just can’t confirm if this will be a 6.1 feature, of it will be part of a future release.
Cheers,
Hi Ryan,
ok, no big deal, not a huge fan of growl in itself, we will look into script sth. on our own…
Regarding the pulsing slave icon: We don´t have the slaves running as a service, but even if not, they are very often minimzed to the tray and people don´t realize their machine is being used for deadline in the background.
I also noted a couple of other things:
On a mac there seems to be no “options” menu ? How would I specify RV as the picture viewer for example?
If i specify RV on a PC and select “doubleclick action should start viewer” it doesn´t do so when doubleclicking the task view…
On a mac I cannot use VNC, if i select “chicken of the VNC” is says “the specified VNC viwer doesn´t exist” (see attached screenshot).
On a mac after I selected a couple of filters and turned them back on, i didn´t update the monitor until I reset the view

Ignore the missing “options” menu, found it in the Monitor/preferences, sorry about that…
I just tested, double-clicking also sticks to the default behaviour on mac (showing the slave log), even though i specified image viewer.

If you right-click on a task, do you have the option to view the image that way? If not, that would explain why it falls back to connecting to the slave log. It can only display the image if Deadline is aware of where the output is going, which isn’t the case if you can’t right-click on a task to view the image.
Chicken of the VNC currently isn’t supported. We’ll add that to the todo list for 6.1. Note that in Deadline 6, the VNC support is just in a script now (/your/repository/scripts/General/ConnectWithVNC.py), so you could modify that script to add support yourself in the meantime.
Can you provide more specifics about this? I’m not sure what you mean about the monitor not updating.
Thanks!
hi ryan,
sorry, I really wrote this a bit too early…it´s all good now, my understanding of the DL6 monitor has increased significantly…
thanks
