Does Cinema 4D use up a license when rendering through Deadline?

Hoping one of our Cinema 4D users can help me out on this one. Can anyone confirm whether or not rendering C4D jobs through Deadline uses up a C4D license on each machine that is rendering the job? Or is it like Maya and 3dsmax where command line rendering is “free”.

Thanks!!

Maxon has confirmed that C4D requires a license when rendering through

Deadline, in case anyone else was wondering.

Cheers,

Hi,

we´re trying to render Cinema 4d with deadline (Beta 4 at the moment, same problem with V3), and it doesn´t work.
You write here that cinema needs a full license for rendering with deadline,
in the faqs you write the opposite: software.primefocusworld.com/sof … license.3F

So, what´s right? It was an argument to buy deadline because it supports cinema beside other apps we use,
but now we must use the net renderer of cinema besides deadline.

Any plans for Deadline V4 to support the netrender of cinema? We don´t want to buy for every render slave a full license of cinema…

Best,
André

This thread is older than the documentation you linked to, and that documentation reflects feedback we’ve received from clients that use C4D with Deadline. I’ve sent an email to Maxon in hopes that they can clarify how licensing works when rendering C4D jobs from the command line (which Deadline does). I’m assuming that when you say it doesn’t work, that you’re getting a licensing error? If that’s the case, can you post the error for reference? If that’s not the case, can you describe in more detail what’s not working?

It currently isn’t possible for 3rd party applications like Deadline to control C4D’s netrender application, which is why we use the command line rendering option. When we hear back from Maxon about the licensing, we’ll post their response here (and update our online documentation as necessary) so that you can make the appropriate decision regarding licensing.

Maxon has confirmed that you don’t need a full license of C4D for each machine when rendering with Deadline, but you do need to enter a license on each node before you can render with it. Here is Maxon’s response:

Deadline runs C4D in nogui mode, so as long as you follow the steps above, you should be good to go. We’ll update our online documentation with this additional information.
