Does "Maintenance Mode" really mean EOL?

I just saw this banner on the webpage (but not in the forum announcements) regarding Maintenance Mode. It really sounds more like EOL and “use AWS Deadline Cloud instead”… Kinda bummed out, but not surprised as I figured this would happen eventually.

Notice: On November 7, 2025, AWS Thinkbox Deadline 10 will enter maintenance mode. We recommend exploring AWS Deadline Cloud for render management.

great work on transitioning the user base to the new product

So the OpenCue docs look like a fun weekend read.

After reading that, it sounds like AWS Thinkbox Deadline 10 already entered maintenance mode years ago?

Maint mode (for now)!! I’m sure at some point they will kill this whole thing for all of us, and force us to pay for something that is currently free.

I’ve been trying to use “Deadline Cloud” with my “customer managed fleet” as they indicate you can, but it’s a garbage fire. No installers, all python etc. with all the headaches that come with configuring anything in AWS/EC2/S3. (and nowhere can you find the simple answer to: “what will my currently free renders cost me”.)

They must think that everyone that uses Thinkbox Deadline 10 ONLY uses it in data centers to manage 100’s of headless linux boxes of docker containers, and EVERY other user is better served by paying for the Cloud version??!

The big issue is that this isn’t “Deadline in the Cloud”, its AWS/EC2/S3 with a pretty coating, but still behaves and needs to be configured in the obscure overly engineered way everything on AWS is. IE not user friendly. I can’t even get their python commands to work, and support?? Good luck there. If you’ve ever tried to get support from AWS you know its hell.

RIP Deadline :frowning:
