EC2 - Slave / Repository / License Server

Hey everyone, I’m trying to test out the VMX rendering with EC2 instances. I can’t seem to find documentation about how to point an EC2 slave to an installed repository & license server. Where might I find info on how to do this? I’m able to get deadline to authenticate with Amazon and I have set up an instance of Ubuntu I would like to spawn and render with. I’m curious how those of you who have gotten this to work are setting things up.

Configuring the base image for the Slave VMs is essentially the same as installing Deadline on a traditional bare-metal physical machine. Start up a VM instance from a base VM image and remote into it. Install and configure Deadline. Test that it can connect to the repository by, for example, launching Monitor. Then use this updated disk image to launch new VM instances either manually from the Cloud Panel, or automatically through VMX after setting up the group mappings.

I have attached a white paper that walks through the configuration of VMX on EC2. The white paper is now a bit dated, so some of the specifics have changed, but the concepts are still relevant. Give it a read and let us know if you have any questions.

In coming weeks we will also be releasing the Cloud Wizard into beta, which automates the installation of Deadline onto public clouds. It will initially support Google Cloud Platform with support for other providers coming soon thereafter.

Thank you very much. I’m going to poke through the document and will be back with questions should I have any.

Thanks again!

Really looking forward to this, hope that the wizard would make my life easier
