Embree loading failed

Hi,

I’m having an error that shouldn’t be fatal killing my renders on deadline 6.1. I have rendered on the slave through command line and I get the error but the render continues without failing.

The error is the following:

Is there any way of ignoring this error and successfully completing the render?

thanks,

-K

You could modify the VRay plugin for Deadline to disable this error handling, but that would mean that any line of stdout that starts with “error:” would be ignored. Ideally, it would be better to determine why that error message is happening in the first place and rectify it. If that’s something you don’t have time for right now though, here’s how you can disable the error checking:

  1. Go to \your\repository\plugins\VRay and open VRay.py in a text editor.

  2. Find this line of code:

        self.AddStdoutHandlerCallback("error:.*").HandleCallback += self.HandleStdoutError
  1. Comment it out so that it looks like this:
        #self.AddStdoutHandlerCallback("error:.*").HandleCallback += self.HandleStdoutError
  1. Save the file and try rendering again.

Cheers,
Ryan

Thanks for the reply,

I’m giving it a go now.

Hi Ryan,

That fixed that problem which is great, I’m going to try some more intensive renders to see how it reacts.

I’m having one other with the Vray Export job throwing up an error. It says it’s not fatal so maybe there is a simple way of ignore this one too. I’ve consulted support but as I’m running the beta they said I should post here. I export using the plugin shelf button for maya, the job starts running then I get the following error.

=======================================================
Error

Error in RenderTasks: Strict error checking on, caught the following error or warning.

Glad that fixed the original problem! For this new one, it looks like Maya is having issues loading the vray plugin. Can you try resubmitting the export job with the “Use MayaBatch” option disabled and post the new log that you get? This will perform a typical command line render, which might help us debug this further.

Thanks!
Ryan

Hi,
Could you walk me through how you have installed VRay onto all your machines including slaves? These errors are all starting to look like a corrupt install of VRay.
Could you show the output from running the command “set” in a command prompt on a problem machine? You can re-direct it to a text file by typing in a DOS prompt:

set > c:\output.txt

and send us the text file. I’m hoping to see various env variables for VRay here.

Maya is failing to find the “vrayRenderer.xml” file, which we can work around by injecting a sys env variable into your machine:

MAYA_RENDER_DESC_PATH=“c:\path\to\your\rendererDesc”

or indeed we can add the above environment variable under job properties, “environment” > “add” > and type in a key=value pair such as above, so that the environment variable is injected into your slaves when running this job.

However, this is all side-stepping the original issue here.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply, I’ve attached the txt file, now I’m just trying the new env variable.

I’ll let you know how it goes in a few minutes.

-K
output.txt (2.67 KB)

Hmm no luck.

I’ve installed Vray using the normal installer on each node and it was running fine before moving to 6.1. I can also submit Vray jobs that render fine, it’s just the maya export that doesn’t work.

-K

Have you tried restarting the machine since you re-installed VRay? The slave won’t recognize any new environment variables until it gets restarted, and restarting the machine will ensure that everything is “refreshed”.

If you still get this same error, can you open a command prompt on one of the render nodes and do these two things:

  1. Change directories to “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2013\bin”
cd "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2013\bin"
  1. Run the following command:
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2013\bin\Render.exe" -r vray -exportFileName "X:/12-106_MAWE_LA_Nighttime_CGI/MAYA/renderData/temp/test_scene.vrscene" -noRender -x 2400 -y 1800 -rd "X:/12-106_MAWE_LA_Nighttime_CGI/MAYA/RENDERS" -im "%s_%l" -proj "X:/12-106_MAWE_LA_Nighttime_CGI/MAYA" "Z:\custom_shaders\VRAY\VR_scene_basic_01_DL_test.mb"

This is the exact command that Deadline is running, so I’m curious to see if it works outside of Deadline.

Thanks!
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I restarted every machine after intallation and have just done again just in case. I got a bit worried when they couldn’t find the Repository straight away but that sorted itself out.

I tried running through command line for you and got the following result. Suffice to say it failed, so there is a problem here outside of Deadline.

Microsoft Windows [Version 5.2.3790]
© Copyright 1985-2003 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\boston1>cd “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2013\bin”

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2013\bin>“C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2013\bin\R
ender.exe” -r vray -exportFileName “X:/12-106_MAWE_LA_Nighttime_CGI/MAYA/renderD
ata/temp/test_scene.vrscene” -noRender -x 2400 -y 1800 -rd “X:/12-106_MAWE_LA_Ni
ghttime_CGI/MAYA/RENDERS” -im “%s_%l” -proj “X:/12-106_MAWE_LA_Nighttime_CGI/MAY
A” “Z:\custom_shaders\VRAY\VR_scene_basic_01_DL_test.mb” > z:\output.txt

Starting “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2013\bin\mayabatch.exe”
// Maya exited with status -1073741819

I’m not sure what the exit status means but it’s something I need to forward to Autodesk.

I’ve come across another problem.

I have a farm of 12 machines, the first 8 of which run on XPpro and the final 4 on Win7. It makes sense that the XP nodes were unable to run Embree so threw up the first error, but there seems to be a new issue. I’m running a car 360 animation and the first 8 nodes complete there assigned frames, then throw up an error (even though they have already written the rendered files) and re-queue thos same frames. So they just re-render the same images again and again.

But this doesn’t happen on the nodes running Windows 7, strange huh?

I’m guessing those XP machines are reporting some sort of error after they have already written the frame, so Deadline just assumes there was a problem and requeues the task so it can try again.

Do you happen to have an error report for the job from when it ran on an XP machine?

Thanks!
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I’ve rolled back to a previous stable version of Vray and with the help of the submitter ignoring Strict errors everything seems to be running, including the XP error. I have notified Chaos group about the issues with the copy we were running and they are checking it out. If I get anything constructive back I’ll post it here.

Thanks again for all your help, both you and Mike.
