Environment Ranges

Why does changing the camera environment ranges cause the camera dependent bermuda mesh to rebuild/update?
I can understand changing the clipping planes, but the environment range shouldn’t affect the mesh at all.

The particular scene I’m working with behaves this way (although I’ve seen the same issue in all the scenes i’ve been testing)

  • hide the bermuda mesh
  • change the far environment range value and max responds in about half a second or less
  • unhide the bermuda mesh (and wait for it to update)
  • change the far environment range value again (doesn’t matter if you revert to the last value or enter a new one)
  • takes about 20 seconds to update

thanks

The reason the Bermuda Mesh updates when you change the camera environment range is because 3ds Max does not provide any information about exactly what parameters have changed in the camera. The only thing I get is a notification that the camera object has “changed” in some way.

I guess the workaround would be to have an “Auto/Manual update” option in the Bermuda Mesh. The Bermuda Mesh could also benefit from having differing render/viewport settings. Currently we aren’t planning on a new Bermuda beta release for a while, but these two things have been on my todo list since the beginning of the beta.

glad to see we’re thinking along the same lines.
i was going to suggest different render/viewport settings as well
