Error(maybe bug?) :Invalid String Material Self Illumination

Hi Everyone,

I didn’t get much time to test this new beta. But later found sometime and I thought to check old files in new Krakatoa beta. I opened very first teapot test scene to check voxels and etc. After opening when I just pressed “render” button, it gave me an error saying “Krakatoa Error : Invalid String Material Self illumination”. I thought it’s becoz of material dynamic operator for in pflow for static material I used, so I changed operator to static and error popped up, also changing selfillunimation value to 0 or switching to color tab gave same error.
I am not sure it’s bug or error I am doing, as it’s coming out as an error, so thought to post scene file here. It wasn’t happening before in old versions of Krakatoa. I attached the file to look at it.

Also one more thing, Does voxels work with legacy particle systems like pcloud etc. When I tried rendering with pcloud it gave me colorfull vortex and sometimes pure white, ignoring all custom particle color(in krakatoa) or particles material color.

The scene appears to be from an EARLY Beta of Krakatoa when colors were still taken from the Self-Illumination channel of the material.
When the scene was saved, the Custom Color property was set to “Material Self-Illumination” and we never added a post-load fix for that because we did not expect anyone to use files from pre-1.0 versions ;o)

If you evaluate this in the Listener, you will see it:

FranticParticles.getProperty “ParticleColorSource”
“Material Self-Illumination”

To fix it, just check the >Override Particle Colors option and select ANYTHING from the List to overwrite the property, then uncheck the >Override again and render.

I also tried to render a PCloud with Voxels and saw no problems. If you could send us a scene that looks wrong, it would be really helpful…

Here I attached the file of pcloud problem. it’s giving multicolor artifact. At first try it rendered fine, but gave me one yellow spot on rendering. what I did was made pcloud, loaded smoke/cloud preset… rendered it with custom particles color override, it rendered fine(but yellow spot), after that I scaled the pcloud and did undo to original scale, and rendered again and then came colored artifacts in render as shown in image. if I change override particles color , from custom particle color to material editor slot, it renders fine. Not sure if this is bug or I am doing something wrong.

I attached the max file and image as well.

Also this voxel is pretty fast on quad core… Will make some quick stuff soon…

Thanks, I was able to repro the problem here.
We will try to figure out what is going on.

In the mean time, assign a material to the PCloud as it appears to render ok with a material.
