Error Messages During MAX2014 Render

I have configured the D6 plugins to point to the MAX2014 3dsmax.exe and 3dsmaxcmd.exe executables in the proper folders on all slaves. (Most have MAX2014 installed at the root of the C drive, some have it installed at the root of the D drive… so there are two entries in plugins to point to C and D).

When I render a MAX2014 job, there are lots of errors listed and when I view them they show these two errors:

Error in StartJob: No 3dsmax 2014 render executable found in the semicolon separated list “C:\3dsMax2014_64\3ds Max 2014\3dsmax.exe;D:\3dsMax2014_64\3ds Max 2014\3dsmax.exe”. The path to the render executable can be configured from the Plugin Configuration in the Deadline Monitor.
at Deadline.Plugins.ScriptPlugin.StartJob(Job job, String& outMessage, AbortLevel& abortLevel)

2013/07/07 11:13:21 Error PC22 14 15 Error in StartJob: The 3dsmax command line renderer, C:\3dsMax2014_64\3ds Max 2014\3dsmaxcmd.exe, hung during the verification of the 3ds max install 00:00:00:19

Any idea why these errors are being thrown when the plugins are setup properly?

Thanks!

OK, I sorted the first error about not being able to find the plugin… two systems had the MAX install on E rather than D.

But the second error continues to happen on a number of slaves.

Thanks!

I’m assuming these are happening on your XP64 machines? As Mike Owen pointed out in this thread (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9848), Max 2014 isn’t supported on XP64, so there could be unexpected issues. In this case, 3dsmaxcmd.exe is hanging when it’s run, which Deadline does to ensure that 3dsmax is properly installed on the machine. You could disable this check in the 3dsmax plugin configuration in the Monitor by setting the “Run Render Sanity Check” setting to False, which will probably workaround this specific problem. However, I’m more concerned that running Max 2014 on unsupported hardware might cause more problems to creep up in the future.

FYI.
Looks like Autodesk are going to fix Max2014 running under XPx64:

#3dsMax 2014 SP2 coming soon! It primarily has a fix for a XP x64 error on launch. While XP is unsupported we did make this specific fix.
