Failed Client install, Win7 64bit.

I had an issue installing the client software on a blade running windows 7, 64bit. I have tried uninstalling the previous install of deadline. Installed failed after being installed in the same directory as previous install.
So I then tried uninstalled the same version and also did a reg clean-up of all Thinkbox/deadline entry’s and folders.
Installed failed again.
Tried a system restore and exact same error happen as before… install failed.
I don’t think any screen shots would help as the error message comes up before the installer starts running. I have successfully installed 5.1.0.45235 on 4 other server which are exactly the same as this server.

Do you see the message saying “This will install Deadline Client on your computer”? I’m guessing it doesn’t make it to the Welcome screen, but knowing if it happens before or after the “This will install Deadline Client on your computer” should help narrow things down.

Thanks!

Yes I do, message saying “This will install Deadline Client on your computer” comes up first. Click yes.
First error message comes up. Same error message in previous post. I select “Close the program”.
Another error message comes up. Same error message. I select “Close the program”.
Deadline Client setup screen comes up. Clicked next.
Accept terms & conditions, clicked next. Error message comes up when clicking next. same error message. Clicked close program
Destination folder screen comes up. left normal location. Clicked next. Error message comes up when clicking next. same error message. Clicked close program
Select components left as is. clicked next.
Launcher Setup left as is. clicked next.
Client Setup left as is. clicked next.
Start copying files. clicked next
Install starts. same error message comes up at the end of the install process. clicked. “Close the Program”
Clicked Finish.

Hmm, that’s interesting. We thought it was a problem with one of deadlinecommand’s commands, but this sounds like a more general problem with deadlinecommand. That’s also interesting that it only happens on one machine.

Have you tried installing to a different location on this machine? Just wondering if it’s at all related to the installation folder.

Hi Ryan,

I have tried installing into another folder with the exact same results.

None of the applications run.

Weird. One more thing to try. Can you copy the Deadline client bin folder from a working machine to this one. You can just copy it to the desktop. Then open up the bin folder and try double clicking on the Monitor or Slave. I’m just trying to figure out if the installer isn’t installing the files properly, or if it’s a more general problem with this machine.

Thanks!

Deadline applications run on different machines… Weird!

Did you try copying the bin folder from a working machine to the desktop of the broken one? If running an app from the copied bin folder still doesn’t work, I think we can chalk it up to some weird config issue with the machine itself. Is re-imaging the machine from a good one a possibility? Often that is quicker than trying to track down the actual issue.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

Russel,

The working bin file doesn’t work on the broken server. I can re-image the server and let your know how it goes.

Sounds good! Keep us posted.

Issue was with clean install of Os.
