Failed to establish connection to Max

Installed a nightly build of VRay and it broke our farm, Deadline fails to establish a connection to max, it fails to load the deadline scene it would seem. Anyone got any idea why installing a new version of Vray would do this? And annoyingly uninstalling doesn’t work! We have to uninstall Max + VRay + all plugins and re-install to get working!!! :@

Can you render with 3dsmaxcmd.exe from the command line? I’m curious if the Vray install just broke Deadline, or if it broke Max’s batch rendering in general.

An error log from the Deadline job would also help.

Thanks!

We ended up having to reinstall the whole farm, as they only way to solve the problem was to do a complete removal of max and all plugins and re-install. Our IT guy was not happy!

Thanks! I was worried that’s what the log would look like. When this happens, it means max has crashed. It’s like the generic “An unexpected exception has occurred in the network renderer and it is terminating.” error you would see when rendering through backburner.

So the next step would be to test 3dsmaxcmd.exe on a problematic machine. If you can’t render with that, then it’s definitely a more general max rendering problem that’s being introduced by the update.
