i think we need some pressure on maxon for this…i’ve asked a few times for some exposure. i’ll ask again…

Great. What’s missing? Better c++/python api?

thats a question for the deadline team…ryan?
The easiest thing I think they could add to facilitate Jigsaw rendering would be a command line option to specify the region to render (X, Y, width, height). We already wrap their command line renderer for rendering, so if they added this new option, it wouldn’t take much effort on our part to add Jigsaw support.
Another option would be for them to add the ability to execute python scripts from the command line. We could then use their python API to control the rendering, and I’m sure this would give more control over the rendering process (including setting the region to render).
We’ve already explored writing a more integrated plugin via C++ or python, but we didn’t get far. The main problem was that we couldn’t find a way to bootstrap C4D to load our plugin (like we do in 3dsmax), and even if we could get it to load, we couldn’t trigger our plugin to do something after C4D finished opening (like we also do in 3dsmax).
Finally, we would need the ability to save the viewport as an image so we can use it as the background to Jigsaw. This might already be possible, but we haven’t investigated if it is or not because the lack of region rendering options is a blocking issue.
Cheers,
Ryan
Yeah the commandline options in c4d are quite limited
