I havn’t used this new krakatoa much except making simple beachwaves… But previously I had to render dust happening in grassy (savanna) land. and I used hair and fur for grass but wasn’t sure how I am gonna compose it with rendered krakatoa dust. So I had to merge grass layer over dust layer to make dust layer between two grass layer to show like it’s been happening in grass…but it’s not look good either.
Any workaround on this? or Is support for hair and fur possible with krakatoa… any tricks?
If it were possible to render out depth slices (in point, it would camera aligned, voxel would be half angle aligned) and save those out to separate sequences, you might be able to get a better (but not perfect) comp.
If your grass was opaque, you could use the matte object culling, but that’s a big “if”. Might be better than nothing.
If you render the Hair in mental ray with primitives, you might be able to get a usable Z-depth pass out of it.
Then you could load that Z-depth pass in the Matte rollout as an image sequence and render your particles matted by that…
We did some testing with rendering hair in Krakatoa - it is possible and shadows looked better than the native rendering, but this is probably not worth pursuing in the near future (1.5 timeframe).
Right now, voxels and rendering speed are the main areas we are concentrating on.
