Feedback Request: What do with import errors?

As you can see from current posts on the forum, SQ can have various import errors. Some of these errors are due to SQ not properly understanding the columns in the data file and to correct that the next build will have an import wizard to help ensure that SQ understands the data columns correctly.

In other cases, there are errors in the file that SQ doesn’t have a clear answer to other than simply displaying an error. For example, there might be blocks of data in the file that doesn’t appear to be a point block at all. In cases where Sequoia can’t understand the input point file, how should SQ handle it?

  1. SQ could report the line number and show you the offending line in the file (if its text)
  2. SQ could try to ignore the bad line and try to continue reading the file
  3. SQ might try to repair the file
  4. Or, are there any other suggestions?

What is preferable to you as users?

Thanks,
Ian

A combination of 1 and 2 for me: try to ignore it, but let me know where it went wrong.

I had a little trouble with the wizard, I had a ascii file with columns: X, Y, Z, Something, Something, R, G, B. For whaterver reason, I couldn’t seem to change the classifier of the last column (i.e. set it to blue). Also I found the channel options a little confusing…

there’s a good chance this is somehting I’m doing wrong, or it could be a small bug

Thank you for your feedback!

I have reproduced the problem you reported with the import wizard, and I will log it as a bug.

Edit:

Sorry, may I ask which channel options were confusing?

I guess I just wasn’t sure what they were there for or how I should use them
