just want to give some feedback on the first days of working with DL7. We have a 35 node Farm with Dual Xeon Servers with 32gb ram. So far DL7 performs very well. I think the “autoajust settings to farm size” helped a lot. Deadline feels a lot more responsive when distributing new tasks.
I am not sure but I think there is some problem with the script execution function. I seams not to work all the time. But this could be a problem with windows rights ass well don’t know so far.
Another question are there some best practice guides out there on setting up 3ds max and the common plugins on ec2? I really want to try this out
Thanks for the feedback! This is exactly why we added the auto-adjust settings, so we’re happy to hear that Deadline is working better for you because of it.
Can you post some sample code that is causing you problems, and explain what the problems are? We can then try to reproduce here.
If you create a base instance that has 3dsmax and all of your plugins set up, you can then clone that instance to grow your cloud-farm, and feel confident that all instances are configured as they should be. If you use Deadline VMX, you can actually have Deadline automatically start and stop instances in EC2 based on the jobs in the farm.
We’ve seen issues using xcopy this way, and we’ve never been able to figure out why it doesn’t work via our remote command system. We recommend using robocopy instead, as it seems to work just fine.
