Framerate issue

I am having problems with playing back my fathom captures. I capture at 30 fps in non-realtime, and play it back at 30 fps. The result is a sequence that plays back at double speed?

Any suggestions?

The first thing I would try is to change Fathom’s recording settings. You can access the recording settings by pressing the “Settings…” button in Fathom’s rollout.

I don’t remember what the default values are, but I’d try:

  • Turning “Use Unbuffered IO” on and off
  • Changing Color to uint8, or off if you don’t use it
  • Different Compression settings, particularly None and Fastest.

Another thing you could experiment with is to turn off “Record PRT” and turn on “Record Image” and “Record Depth”, but we haven’t released a tool to convert the image and depth into a PRT file yet.

I have tried your suggestions but still get playback at dbl framerate…

Funny thing is that a few of my recording sessions have actually worked, but it seems like there is no rule for when it records at normal speed or at double. At one point I thought it had something to do with restarting 3dsmax and only doing one recording per max session, but unfortunately that also gives dbl framerate most of the time.

Ok, interesting! I assumed it was just slow recording, rather than exactly half speed. Would you happen to have two Kinects attached? Or two Fathom nodes in your scene?

No just a single Fathom and one Kinect. The playback seems to happen at exactly double speed, if I slow it down in my NLE to 50% it runs at normal speed…

ive had this issue as well, and it seems that when you capture and record at the same time (especially high resolution) it only captures every other frame

it would be great to be able to record videos without the need to create point clouds in realtime, but rather quickly convert the kinect captured stereo video into .prts after the dance session has completed

this would allow us to capture on a laptop and in more mobile environments as well!

I totally agree Ian - I’ve actually already setup Fathom on my laptop, so prepare yourself for some Berlin Nightlife pointclouds soon
