Frost and Thinking Particles Bug

hey, im not sure but i think i’ve discovered a bug when using TP and frost together,

its about using geom instnace node (for spawning on a particle some other particles) and network rendering

evrything is ok when u use such setup on local mashine, yet if u try network rendering frost just doesnt work, renders go without error but u just recive empty frames (without eigther TP or frost)

here’s a test file, it will render on local mashine, but wont render on backburner

Thank you for your report! We will look into this.

Is this problem urgent for you?

thanks for fast replay,
no, its not urgent, im just playing around with some tests with frost connected to TP and just came across this, first i thought i made some mistakes in TP, then i checked my little farm setup if there was something wrong, then i found its just a frost problem,
and since using geometric instance is really helpful in tp its sad to know that frost cant handle it in network rendering,

so i thought i’ll inform you about that

anyway i’ve also found some workaround to get rid of this problem:

  1. cache tp simulation
  2. create EMPTY tp system (tp system can have groups with radius channel if needed) and load tp sim to the dynamic set, then connect frost to this new tp system, it will work:)

Thanks! Unfortunately I was not able to reproduce this problem.

I am using:* 3ds Max 2011 x64

  • V-Ray 2.20.03
  • Thinking Particles 4 SP 3
  • Frost 1.3.5

I submitted the FROST_bug.max render to a Backburner server running on my local machine. The Frost mesh appeared correctly in the output render.

Do you notice any differences between my setup and yours?

(I also tried using 3ds Max 2012 with newer versions of V-Ray and Thinking Particles, and I could not reproduce the problem with that setup either.)

dang, just noticed got quite old frost, 1.2
gonna get this 1.3.5 beta and check if it is still there,
