XMesh would be a good solution, but the Maya version of it is still in Beta.
The alternative would be a sequence of OBJ files, but that’s plain ugly… XMesh MX can easily save to an OBJ sequence, and version 1.0.2 now even supports the Maya Y-up coordinate system as default option.
