Gamma errors with Corona when rendering Tiles

Hi all! I’m a Deadline noob so this is my first post here.

We’ve installed Deadline on our farm 2 days ago and after some setup everything seems to be in order, at least with Vray. With Corona I have an issue I can’t wrap my head around. Basically, if I submit the job as a full frame rendering, everything is correct and the image saves properly. However, if I render a single image as tiles on multiple slaves, the final image ends up having the wrong gamma (much too dark). The tiles already have the wrong gamma even before the draft tile assembly.

I know Corona has some gamma tweaks and workarounds inside, but I’m not really sure how that works (or doesn’t) with Deadline or what I may be able to do to circumvent this behavior. Any help would be much appreciated.

EDIT:

Forgot to add Deadline Version: 7.1.2.1 R (53013d5bd), Windows 8.1 pro, 3dsmax 2016, Corona 1.2.1

With some additional testing I seem to have isolated the problem to saving OpenEXR images. For example, if you open max to a clean scene, put in some objects or whatever, set the save file to PNG or JPEG and render Tiles via Deadline, the resulting image is correct.

If you then switch the save file type to OpenEXR, gamma goes berserk. If you tried to save to OpenEXR even once, gamma will stay wrong whatever you change the file type to afterwards.

Hello,

Sorry this took so long, but I was wondering if you are able to pre cache light? I’m not sure what could be happening, to be honest, but logs should help.

Support for Corona 1.2.1 was added to Deadline v7.2.0.18 which shipped last week. With that said, the changes were minimal in Corona, so could I get a simple teapot test scene file to reproduce this issue for you?

As Dwight said, if your using a pre-cache light solution in your scene file, then this will need to be saved out and referenced back into the scene file to ensure you don’t get that “patchwork quilt” looking affect when the differently lit tiles are stitched together by our DraftTileAssembler. (Same deal as VRay here)

Also, can you confirm your gamma workflow/settings in your pipeline, as per ADSK instructions here:
help.autodesk.com/view/3DSMAX/20 … F5172219B5

and your gamma settings here and also in the “File -> Save -> Gamma Override” settings:

Finally, can you confirm by executing the following lines of MAXScript, what these values are?

FileInGamma FileOutGamma

I notice other users reporting gamma issues on the Corona website:
