getting viewport closer to render

ive been noticing that a low viewport resolution tends to make the surface alot different than render resolution, forcing me to increase resoultion in viewport quite abit

is it possible to better predict the highres version and optimize that with lower polys for viewport, instead of creating surface based on lower poly to begin with ?

Yes, I’d like to investigate some changes along these lines.

You may want to try increasing the Viewport Vertex Refinement (in the Meshing Quality rollout), which defaults to zero. Even small values could move the surface closer to the render.
