Hi, I have a node on my farm that hangs at the stage of getting connection from 3ds max. It doesn’t report any errors, it just waits for a connection into eternity.
How do I go about solving this?

There should be a timeout setting that prevents it from hanging like this. In the Monitor, enter Super User mode from the Tools menu, then select Tools -> Configure Plugins. Under the 3dsmax settings, what do you have for the Timeout For Loading 3dsmax setting? This setting controls how long Deadline should wait for Max to start up.
To start debugging the reason why Max hangs, can you try launching 3dsmax without Deadline on the node? Just want to make sure it starts up at all.

Thanks Ryan, yes Max seems to work fine on the workstation, it only happens when it is in slave mode, trying to do a render.
Cool. Thanks for running that test. Here are some more questions for you:
- Which version of Deadline?
- Which version of 3dsmax?
- Since it’s just the one node, is there anything obviously different from the other nodes? For example, different hardware, windows updates disabled or not up to date, etc? Could you re-image the node from a working node’s image? Sometimes that’s easier than tracking down the actual problem.
