Hi guys,
I’ve got a problem with setting up my poor-man’s renderfarm.
I’ve two machines and two Maya licenses. The first machine (A) is what I do my work on. The idea is to have the second machine (B) render the work when needed.
I’ve got Maya set up with machine A and B. Maya on machine B runs fine when I open it from machine B - but doesn’t run at all when I access machine B remotely from machine A. The plan was to only ever access machine B from machine A - this problem is rendering (sorry for the pun) my farm useless.
This is stopping deadline from rendering (becuase it can’t find a valid mental ray license)
Anyone got any solutions. I can perform Maay software renders, but I’m after rendering using mental ray.
BTW - is there a way to get deadline to start rendering instantly, rather than waiting a while? If so, how?
Thanks
James
Hi James,
If both machines have a fully registered and licensed version of Maya
installed, then mental ray rendering should work. However, since maya
software jobs are working and mental ray ones are not, it would appear
that Maya also isn’t finding a license when it starts up on machine B in
command line mode (note that Deadline doesn’t control how Maya finds a
license). How are you remoting into machine B? I’ve heard that using RDC
can sometimes mess up licensing, which is why we recommend using VNC
instead. If you’re RDC’ing into machine B, maybe that is conflicting
with Maya’s licensing system.
To get renders to start quicker, you can adjust the interval between
repository checks for the slaves. In the Monitor, enter super user mode
and then select Tools -> Configure Repository Options. Then scroll down
to find the Slave settings and set the Delay Between Repository Polls
setting to 10 seconds instead of the default 60.
Cheers,
- Ryan

Yeah, I'm connecting using MRDC - I didn't connect to it, and it's suddenly rendering..
Thanks
