Hi, we currently have Houdini FX with HIP files, but now we have been asked by a school that they have the education license with .hipnc files but I did a test but can not render in the renderfarm that type of file, would I need to buy the education license ?

that’s a SideFX question? You can render .hipnc with an educational license, just not with a non-commercial license. they both save .hipnc, but education allows you unrestricted access.
you can’t mix the files .hip, .hiplc, .hipnc in a pipeline, you can’t mix the licenses either.

no, the UBL licenses in Thinkbox won’t work. I don’t know if there is a way to license in the cloud. assuming they have the academic license pack you could set up a vpn to collect these? or assign them to a cloud machine?

not 100% on the legal aspect but sure SideFX would be accommodating on this sort of thing.
