How to Clear VFB between frames

Is there a way to clear the vray frame buffer between frames?
There is an option to restart max between frames but we have fairly large scenes and reloading them completely is a bit of an overkill for what we need.

Hi,
I assume you are rendering using our “3dsmax” plugin and not the “3dscmd” plugin?
If you enable the checkbox “Restart Renderer Between Frames” in SMTD (“render” tab) or via the monitor submission script (2nd tab), this will unload the entire VRay renderer plugin, purging all memory and then re-load it. The process takes about 1 or 2 seconds. As all VRay plugin memory is being purged and re-initialised, this should clear the VFB as well.
Let us know if that does the trick?
Mike

I’m not sure if that feature works on my end.
I have the “restart renderer between frames” set to true in the job properties but the previously rendered frame is not cleared.
a bit of an issue when dealing with an animated region render.

Ah, hold on a second, I assumed previously that you have already enabled the “previous render” setting to “Clear” in the V-Ray System rollout and it was just VRay holding onto memory? Can you confirm that in your 3dsmax file, the Previous Render DDL is set to “Clear” as per the image below. Note, that you can also apply the change by right-clicking the job once in Deadline and changing the setting there, which is super useful if you want to edit batch style a number of 3dsMax jobs that have already been submitted
