New to Deadline and testing it out.
Am I missing something or is it not possible to choose your slaves when submitting via the in app submission scripts? I’m trying Maya and AE at the moment (both mel and script work fine) but there doesn’t seem to be any input to choose you slaves (as there is within DeadlineMonitor).
Is that how it should be and if so, how should you manage slaves when submitting from an application?
Thanks,

Running OSX 10.7.2 and 10.6.8
A lot of the in-app submitters don’t have the option to choose specific machines. It’s something that we should be adding though, so I’ve logged this as a feature request.
Generally, you would use groups to control which slaves your job renders on . You could create a Maya and AfterEffects group, assign the proper machines to them, and then choose that group when submitting the job.
Cheers,
Thanks for the reply.
We’re only a small studio here with 6 slaves (4 of those workstations) so that theory doesn’t really work for us. We’ve got 2 machines that are generally free and then we’d add any free workstations if available.
I guess I could set up a group with the 2 spare machines and then update the job in DeadlineMonitor to add other machines. Just a bit of double handling involved there.
Definitely a feature request from us!
It’s been logged as a feature request, and we’ll definitely look at it after 5.1 is released.
Are the workstations always running the Slave, or do the artists only run the slave when they’re not using the machine? If it’s the latter, then you probably don’t have to specify any machines or groups, as the jobs will just run on the machines that are actually running the slave. When the artist returns, they can set the slave to close after it finishes its current task, or they can close it immediately and the slave will requeue the task so that another slave can pick it up.
Cheers,
Ahh, I didn’t realise that if you didn’t set any slaves then it will look for all available. I’m testing at the mo. but yes, the intention was that the slaves would not be running on the workstations by default so that should work for us.
Thanks.
