I’m desperately trying to install the demo version of Krakatoa, however I seem to already be running into a lot of problems. I run the install and follow all instructions. It tells me it has installed successfully but when I open 3ds Max and go to assign renderer, Krakatoa doesn’t show up.
I’m really hoping this is merely to do with me being a bit stupid and nothing else. I’ve tried re-installing several times and get the same effect.
I’m on Windows 7 pro 64 bit, 3ds Max 2010 64 bit student license. Could it have potentially installed to the X86 directory instead?
Did you read the documentation and the notes about what to do if the installation does not work?
In short, especially if UAC is on and/or user accounts are enabled, the installer could fail to modify the correct plugin.ini file when run on Windows 7 or Vista.
Krakatoa is NOT installed into the 3ds Max directory structure, it always goes into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Prime Focus\Krakatoa folder and the only connection between the various installations of Max and the various builds of Krakatoa is the entry in the plugin.ini file. The only file copied to the root of Max is TBB.DLL which is needed for multithreading.
The plugin.ini file should get two entries - one for Krakatoa itself and one for Helium.
Thank you, I thought I had turned off UAC but I obviously misclicked or something, when I double checked it was still enabled just now. After disabling it and re-installing It’s worked fine. Thank you so much,
