Is it possible to keep plugin processes running and pass new tasks to them?

I’m just trying to verify a rumor here. My co-worker told me that at his previous job they allegedly set up the farm in such a way that the first task would boot up a plugin (Houdini for example) and all the following tasks would use that process, therefore not suffering the slow startup penalty.

Is it possible?

Yep, that’s what out “Batch Plugin” option refers to in the Nuke, Max, Maya, Cinema4d, and Fusion application plugins.

We don’t have support for that in Houdini however.
