Jobs with 'On Job Complete' set to 'Delete Job' have recently stopped auto-deleting

Hi all,

For well over a year, we’ve been generating ffmpeg encode Jobs with ‘On Job Complete’ set to ‘Delete Job’, and they’ve been doing exactly that – until about a couple of weeks ago, when they stopped auto-deleting on completion. Nothing has changed in our code base, and AFAIK no one has changed anything about the repository settings. We’re currently using an older version of Deadline (9.0.3).

Looking at the logs, everything is exactly as it was prior to them not auto-deleting – they have completed with normal exit codes, etc.

Curious as to where else I might look to troubleshoot this issue.

Cheers,

Following up – while I was investigating this, I started looking into Pulse and discovered that all of the machines in our farm that were running Pulse had it in an ‘Offline’ or ‘Stalled’ state, and the one machine where it was listed as Primary was in state ‘Unknown’ (and when pinged doesn’t appear to be on the network anymore – clearly I have to check in with our IT department).

I launched Pulse on my own workstation, made it Primary, and almost immediately it started House Cleaning those Jobs, as expected.

In my time using Deadline, I guess I assumed that the Repository would always run House Cleaning, auto-deleting those ‘Delete Job’ Jobs, whether or not Pulse was running anywhere, but it seems that’s not the case. If I’m still misunderstanding this aspect of Pulse/Deadline, let me know!

Cheers,

I’m glad you’ve got it working!

To fill you in on House Cleaning, that’s run by one of Pulse, the Remote Connection Server or the Worker. Big farms tend to disable Workers from running the House Cleaning process, as it takes up valuable minutes on valuable machines and instead get a machine running Pulse to do it instead. Sounds like that’s the case here as well.

In the Monitor if you go to Tools->Configure Repository Options->House Cleaning->House Cleaning the ‘Allow Workers to Perform House Cleaning if Pulse is not running’ option is probably un-ticked, which is why none of your Workers took up the House Cleaning work. You might have previously been working in setups where that’s enabled and the Workers will cover for a missing/disabled Pulse.

If your usual Pulse machine has gone AWOL, I’d enable it to save this from happening again.
