Krakatoa 1.1.1.32090 RC1 Posted For Testing - May 29th 2008

Please note that a new version of Krakatoa containing support for 3ds Max 2009 including enhanced VFB controls and some new features and bug fixes has been posted to the download area http://support.franticvfx.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1256. It requires the same license as 1.1.0. We are switching internally to 1.1.1 to test it in production, but would like to have some Beta feedback esp. regarding the VFB changes.

In the mean time, we are hammering on version 1.2.0 which should go in Beta next month if everything goes well…

Thanks for the new version, the VFB extension for Max 2009 is very handy!
OK, here are 2 small issues I´ve noticed.

  1. I get an error message (version not supported) if I try to add Krakatoa to
Max 2009 (english version). I had to add the path manually to the plugin.ini.

  2. The Max 2009 VFB extension of Krakatoa doesn´t show up in following situation:
Open Max or reset it, choose any renderer (not Krakatoa), load any Krakatoa scene
and hit render, no VFB extension appears. Switching to a different renderer and
then back to Krakatoa solves this.

Thanks for the feedback and bug reports!

  1. I was able to repro 1. at home. I wonder why it worked on the office machine. We will investigate today and try to fix this.
  2. This is exactly the kind of glitches that we wanted to hear about - we will look into this ASAP.

I posted an updated script but discovered other issues with it so I removed it.
We will post a new full installer once all the known problems are fixed.

Thanks for the fix Bobo, it seems to work fine now, the extension always appears
as expected.
But I found another problem related to the VFB.
If a different renderer than Krakatoa is set as active and I try to load a Krakatoa
scene during the VFB window is open, sometimes I get this error message (message.jpg)
and the extension completely disappears (no render button etc.).

Edit: Oh, seems my post comes too late

Yep, I found and fixed this one, but decided to remove the download so nobody else gets this crash.
You can uninstall Krakatoa 1.1.1 from the Add/Remove Programs and reinstall to get the previous script - at least it did not crash.
We will build a new installer once we have fixed all known problems.

Or, if you are brave, you can try the attached fix2…
Krakatoa_VFB_Methods_1.1.1.RC1_fix2.zip (9.34 KB)

Yes, thats it. The VFB extension seems to be cured now

We uploaded an updated installer which should now detect Max 2009 correctly.
It also includes the fixes to the VFB updates and some other small enhancements incl. more tooltips in the VFB and updating the Cache data in the VFB when using the PCache/LCache right-click menu option for clearing the caches.

Should anyone find problems with the new build, please post them in this thread.

Thanks!
