Krakatoa + Light Tracer

First of all, I would like to congratulate you guys for this amazing piece of genius!

I have a couple of question, sorry if they been answered before, did a search on the forum but couldnt quite find any related topic.

Is it possible, yet, to use Light Tracer? Did a quick test with a Skylight and turning Light Tracer on, but didnt seem to get any results.

Is there a Help file for Krakatoa?

Many thanks

Carlos

Light Tracer was Autodesk’s poor attempt to do brute force global illumination in the Scanline Renderer. It is not a light, it is an Advanced Lighting module like Radiosity. And of course, it cannot be used with other Renderers but Scanline.

The Sky Light on the other hand was written by the then Blur Studio RnD guys which were already working on Brazil r/s but had some contractual obligations to Discreet to support the Raytracer they licensed in R2. So they implemented another hacked version which uses an array of shadow-casting direct lights. Obviously, you can fake that using any of the Skydome scripts floating around - all you need is 50 to 100 lights and some patience. With the upcoming build, calculating a large number of lights will be a lot faster thanks to the new sorting options.

We intend to add support for Skylight and Image-Based Lighting in future versions of Krakatoa (after 1.0 has shipped). See the thread entitled “Image Based Rendering RnD” (link might not work, this Board tends to break them)

It is work in progress.

The one help file you can download from the Builds conference is rather old but A) it has some great intro tutorials and B) will show you how the current version has evolved since the first Beta build ;o)

For now, your best chance is reading the release notes of all beta builds, then scanning the discussions for answers and then posting your own questions.

Thanks for your patience!
