Krakatoa render elements crashing slaves on deadline!

Krakatoa RC2
Windows XP 64
Max 2010 x64

We render a sequence in scanline without any render element on deadline , it works fine . we render it on scanline with render element on deadline it works fine. We render krakatoa without any element , it woks fine , once we turn on the render elements , deadline deadline slaves trough an error and restart the same frame over and over.

To clarify we submit trough the deadline submitter inside max.

We have been testing this the whole day and did find any solution, we are pretty new to deadline but this looks really like a bug!

this is the error log from deadline

Indeed that looks troublesome. Can you describe the render elements you are submitting? Are you using a lot, just one, etc. This way I can try to re-create your issue.

Also, can you confirm that these render elements work fine locally.

I am testing it in a very simple scene. It happens even with 1 render element.
It does render locally correctly without any error!

Out of curiosity, is this the English build of Max 2010 64 bit or the German one?

We also run Windows XP 64 with Max 2010 64 and I installed RC2 to be on the same page.
The only difference I see between your log file and mine (besides the fact yours is crashing and ours isn’t) is

Version of core.dll: 12.1.7.209

in ours vs.

Version of core.dll: 12.1.0.310

in yours. So we are running a slightly different build of Max.

Now I think this is in the realm of Deadline Support Questions.

Looking again at the Log, it crashes long before Krakatoa is even launched. As far as I can see, it crashes when it calls some Backburner code to ensure the install of Max is correct. I seem to remember some issue where Autodesk had to patch some DLLs to fix that bug with a service pack or hotfix or something, so it might be related. Why it does not cause problems when Krakatoa is not the renderer or has no render elements is a mystery to me though. It works ok on our farm, so there must be something special on yours.

I will send an email to Ryan / Deadline Support to take a look at this thread and tell us if it might be related.

Which version of Deadline are you running? We’re running Deadline 4.1 (the latest release), so if you’re running an older version, that could explain why we can’t reproduce this problem here. I also noticed from the log that you’re rendering with concurrent tasks > 1. Do you get this error if concurrent tasks is set to 1?

Cheers,

  • Ryan

We were still on 4.0 , we installed 4.1 with all the patches.
Now everything works fine!

Thx for looking into it though!
