  • All the Krakatoa VRY for 3ds Max UI fixes that were in a separate post have been merged.
  • Also fixed a bug in the 3ds Max integration where assigning VRay manually is not setting the ActiveShade to VRayRT - now if th ActiveShade is not VRayRT during vscene export, it will be assigned automatically.
  • Fixed a compositing bug where matte objects were occluding the Z-depth pass of the Krakatoa rendering, especially obvious with extreme DOF if geometry was in front of Krakatoa particles.

The attached updated DLL speeds up shadows calculations significantly.
You can simply replace the DLL installed by the Beta 2 installer.

For example, if running 3ds Max 2017, the DLL should go into
C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\RT for 3ds Max 2017 for x64\bin\plugins
vray_KrakatoaVRY_Beta2_fastshadows.zip (4.47 MB)

The attached Krakatoa VRY exporter script for 3ds Max fixes a bug where the NFR V-Ray version was not being detected properly (only V-Ray Advanced was being detected). We had to change our interactive licensing from ADV to NFR ones this year, and discovered the bug.

To fix, replace the file found under the \Scripts folder of the Krakatoa MX installation, e.g.
C:\Program Files\Thinkbox\Krakatoa MX\Scripts\KrakatoaVRY_Exporter.ms

If you are not running an NFR license of V-Ray, you don’t need to apply this fix. It will be included in the next Beta build.
