If you send a remote message to a slave to “restart slave after current task completion”, but the launcher is NOT running, and you then start the launcher, the slave will shut down immediately, instead of waiting for the task to finish.
This is bad

I’m assuming the launcher shut down the slave because it was doing an auto upgrade? In version 5, if the slave was running, we had the Launcher pop up a message telling you that there is an upgrade and you have the option to upgrade now or not. In version 6, we simply forgot to include this popup message. It will be back in beta 9 though.
Thanks for reporting this!
Yep, it was doing an update!
