Hi guys,
Does your license system test for the disk volume serial number? we’ve had a HDD melt-down and we cannot start the deadline license through LMTools (v. 11.4)
Do we need to re-submit our server details and get a new license?
Regards,
Josh.
Hi Josh,
The license system is based on the machine’s MAC address. If you’re
moving the license server to a new machine with a different MAC address,
then you will need a new license. Just email use the license server
details (hostname, IP address, MAC address), and we can send you a new
license.
Cheers,
- Ryan

Hi Ryan!
hmmm that’s what i had though.
same machine, new hard disk. We have LMtools working ok with Max, but no joy with deadline.
curious! < :
J.
That is strange. One of best ways I find for debugging flexlm issues is
to try and start the license server using the “quick and dirty” method
explained here (watch for wrapping in the link):
http://www.franticfilms.com/software/support/deadline/licensing.php#Manually_Starting_the_FLEXlm_License_Manager_Using_The_Quick_And_Dirty_Method
If the license server can’t start up for whatever reason, an error
message should be printed to stdout that you can post for us to take a
look at.
Cheers,
- Ryan

ah - ok that seem to have got us going.
Also, I’ve installed ie6 for BB, and this seems to have improved things. Any relation?
Josh.
I wouldn’t think that would make a difference… but I could be wrong…
Anyways, glad to hear you’re up and running again!
Cheers,
